Aug 21 – Poet’s Day

21 Aug

Going to Vagabond’s Stone Groove Open Mic to listen to some talented guys pour their heart out through various forms of poetry. The guy at the end broke my heart with his passion. He talked about walking away from something he loves becomes it’s really not panning out. The irony is he’s so good at it. Unfortunately his sorrow makes for a moving artistic moment. It’s inspiring to see talented people not be afraid to be vulnerable and express themselves. The world needs less tweeters and more poets.

Aug 20 – Radio Day

20 Aug

Going to the studio to make a radio commercial and one of the weirdest things I’ve ever had to do happened.

Aug 19 – Aviation Day

19 Aug

We’re celebrating the invention of flight by trying out an invention that lets you surf in the sky called Fly Boarding. Definitely worth trying.

Kid President is also celebrating Humanitarian Day today. Check that out.

Aug 18 – Bad Poetry Day

18 Aug

Poetry is an opinion so it’s hard for it to be bad, but this one definitely is.

Aug 17 – Thrift Store Day

Love this song. People be dancing to this in the club not knowing it’s about buying used clothes. Love the video too. Got mad respect for Mackelmore now.

Aug 16 – Men’s Grooming Day

16 Aug

Not much to groom.

Aug 15 – Failures Day

15 Aug

This is a day to look back at our failures and embrace them. If not for that, we couldn’t grow as individuals. In fact, one of my favorite commercials of all time expresses just that.

My career deals with failure on a daily basis. I present ideas and they can fail internally, on the client level or on a consumer level. You have to always be ready for things to go wrong, but not being afraid to fail is what makes us courageous enough to push forward.

I remember when I was sure that I would win a certain award at school and I didn’t. Not only was that failure humbling, but it taught me to never put that much emphasis on things like that again. Success is what you make of it and no trophy, certificate or peer acknowledgment will ever change that.

Aug 14 – Navajo Code Talkers Day

14 Aug

Code talking was a key to the American victory in World War II. They were able to land on Iwo Jima beach and successfully deliver up to 800 encrypted messages that helped carry sensitive information about troop movement and other field operations.

Knowledge of this wasn’t released until 1969 and in 1982 Reagan declared it a national holiday. It’s crazy the risk these guys had to take during war. Now we’d have to send teenage Emoji code talkers or something. It’s so easy to relay and intercept information, but these guys took a risk and we thank them for that. Check out a short documentary about it below.

and here’s a more in-depth article if you want to read further.

Aug 13 – Left Handers Day

13 Aug

There is a movement to make the world more Lefty friendly since the number of lefties has steadily increased every year. We also need to shed light on why left handers are more likely to be schizophrenic, dyslexic or attention deficit. (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204083204577080562692452538.html)

But for some reason, Lefty’s are also some of the most powerful people. Watch the video to see the top 10 most powerful leftys ever.
